List Building Tips - How To Protect Your Subscribers

I must share with you a bad experience I had last week, and hopefully you can learn from that and not make the same mistake I did when building your own list of subscribers.

I am no longer with the autoresponder company called EmailAces because they have suspended my account due to spam complaints. While I was completely unaware that people were making spam complaints and I even had a clearly labeled unsubscribe link at the bottom of all the emails going out to my list, there were still spam complaints being filed against me. The culprit was me using a co-registration lead service as a supplement to my list building. Another factor is that my list did not use the "double optin" method.

First thing I would suggest is that you make regular backups of your subscriber list. Second, use the "double optin" method. This is where someone needs to click a confirmation link in their email to complete their subscription to your list. Lastly, never import leads that you have bought into your email list as this will probably cause spam complaints against you.

I don't want what happened to me to happen to you so take these suggestions seriously and protect your email list anyway you can. I lost over 2000 legitimate and profitable leads because of my error. Now I use double optin and only get subscribers from my own web forms rather then using a co-registration lead service. If you are first starting out to build a list, you must get the subscribers from a web form, use double optin and use a reliable autoresponder.
