How Important is Creating Credibility with Articles and Web Content?

Email marketing used to be the best way to get your name in from of people. Mass emailings were once considered the fair-haired child, but those days are no longer. In fact, people who have to resort to email marketing and spam are often seen as less credible than those who use more non-invasive methods.

In order to boost credibility, people are turning to article writing and web content. In some ways it makes sense: if you were looking for garden tools and wanted the most current innovations, you might trust someone who has written and is published on the subject before you would trust someone who clogs your inbox with email hairballs.

However, a real expert will have to establish himself or herself by providing good information. These days many people can get “published” just by posting material on a content website. Big deal. If the articles are published in various places and picked up by an online magazine or two, those are much better references--especially if the online magazine is specific to the subject that the author is writing about.

Also remember that many people hire these articles to be written by others. Ghost writing does not make an expert, but often experts in the field aren’t necessarily good writers. So the only true way to tell if a person has credibility is to check referrals and contact them personally to see if they can answer your questions well
