Email Marketing - You Must Write Your Own Emails II have referred and alluded to this idea in other parts of this book, as it relates to other topics, so if it sounds extra-familiar – it is!But this is an important concept to understand. You see, when you are building your list, you are really building a series of relationships. You are building a relationship with each individual person on your list. You may think of it as ‘your list’ but to each person that reads your emails, they are only one person. So although you may have a relationship with ‘your list’ you really have a multiple relationships with each of the individuals on your list. When you are building a relationship in person, you have to have consistency in your communication. Imagine you are building a friendship with someone. Now imagine that instead of personally talking to your friend, or using your own words, you ask someone else to write your conversations for you. Worse yet, you ask a number of different people to script your conversations for you. What would happen? Even though it might be your actual voice talking with them, but if you are using someone else’s script to talk with them, they would probably feel as though they were talking to a different person on each conversation – and that is basically what they are doing! That’s what happens when you use canned affiliate emails from different people, or you hire someone to write your emails for you – they are not able to develop a continuity with you, to bond with your style – because each email you send has a different style. |
